Our tour will take you beyond the capital's boundaries, where you’ll discover a tapestry of landscapes, from rolling green countryside to rugged coastal cliffs. You'll witness a fusion of medieval grandeur and coastal elegance as we visit charming villages and historic towns, including the remarkable Mont Saint-Michel and the refined Deauville. Brittany and Normandy's rich history, fantastic food, and breathtaking scenery promise an unforgettable odyssey that bridges the gap between past and present, city and countryside, adventure and relaxation.

So, fasten your “ceintures” as we venture from the bustling streets of Paris to the tranquil wonders of the northwest coast, a journey that promises to captivate every traveler's soul.

This trip will include daily walking excursions led by Chuck for those who wish to participate.

  • April 27 - Arrive in Paris, transfer to Monmarte

Arriving in Paris is a moment you’ll never forget. The moment you set foot in this enchanting city, surprises await around every corner- the aroma of freshly baked croissants, the distant echoes of street musicians, random gardens, parks, and fountains instantly transport you into a realm of wonder… “Did I imagine that?” As you explore the charming cobblestone streets of Montmartre, you begin to feel at ease. At home. Perched above the city, Montmartre exudes an artistic allure that has attracted creatives for generations.

You’ll meet your fellow travelers as we all arrive from the airport. We hope you’ll lose track of time as you wander the narrow alleys and find the cozy cafes that become your daily haunts as you explore Montmartre. You can revel in the animated conversations that blend different languages and perspectives. Staying in Montmartre can’t help but deepen your connection to the neighborhood's rich history and remind you that the beauty of human connection is one of Paris’ most fabulous treasures.

We will stay three nights in Montmartre at the Hotel des Arts Montmartre.

  • April 28 - Explore Paris

We will meet Chuck in the morning and walk to Pere Lachaise cemetery. This historical cemetery is known for being the final resting place of many notable individuals, including renowned writers, musicians, artists, and political figures.

As we stroll through the cemetery, we can admire the beautiful tombstones, mausoleums, and sculptures adorn the landscape. Chuck will point out some of the most significant gravesites, such as the final resting places of Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, Edith Piaf, and many more.

After we visit Pere Lachaise cemetery, we will take a break for lunch. You can enjoy some delicious French cuisine at a nearby café or restaurant. Take your time to savor the flavors and soak in the atmosphere.

In the afternoon, you will have the freedom to explore Paris at your own pace. This vibrant city offers so much, from iconic landmarks to world-renowned museums. Wander through the charming streets, browse local boutiques, or relax in one of the city's numerous parks.

Feel free to seek recommendations from Chuck or Hilary on places to visit, hidden gems, or local experiences. Whether you indulge in retail therapy on the Champs-Élysées or dive into the city's rich art scene, Paris will undoubtedly captivate you with its charm and beauty. ‘

  • April 29 - Time in Paris on Your Own

Today is your opportunity to visit landmarks of personal interest to you. Let us know your plans, and we can direct you to “skip the line” sites or give you a realistic appraisal of your goals.

Paris is known for its unique neighborhoods, each with its charm and character. Take the time to explore areas like Montmartre, Le Marais, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and the Latin Quarter to experience the different vibes of the city.

Paris is home to numerous world-class museums and galleries, so visit some if you are interested in art and history.

Remember to take your time, soak in the atmosphere, and embrace the unique charm of the City of Lights. With Chuck and Hilary's guidance and tips, you will have a fantastic day exploring Paris. They’ll be available for ideas if you don’t know what to do.

Tonight, we will enjoy a group dinner at Le Polidor. Beginning as a “cremerie” in the 19th century, Le Polidor quickly became a popular rendezvous for artists, students, intellectuals, and politicians from the surrounding neighborhoods. Then, as now, Le Polidor provided good French “comfort food,” homey and affordable. Its tables have welcomed Sorbonne students, residents, and visitors to the neighborhood for over 175 years. Hemingway fans will recognize the name from his personal history, A Moveable Feast. The last time we checked, his napkin ring was still hanging on a hook in the back of the restaurant.

  • April 30 - St. Malo

Today, we will transfer from Paris to Brittany, staying at Hotel Bristol Union Intra Muros in St. Malo.

Once you settle into the hotel, you can take advantage of its proximity to the coast and explore the stunning beaches of St. Malo. You can also stroll through the city to admire the well-preserved medieval architecture and visit landmarks such as St. Malo Cathedral and the Fort National.

Don't miss the opportunity to sample the local cuisine, including fresh seafood and traditional Breton dishes, at the numerous restaurants and cafes scattered throughout the city. In the evening, you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the promenade, taking in the beautiful sunset over the sea.

Overall, our stay at Hotel Bristol Union Intra Muros will provide a comfortable base for exploring St. Malo and the charming region of Brittany. St. Malo is located on the English Channel and is known for its picturesque old town surrounded by imposing stone walls. St. Malo has a rich maritime history and is often called the "Corsair City" due to its past as a base for privateers or pirates.

The city was established in the 12th century and thrived as a prosperous trading port during medieval times. It was heavily fortified to protect against attacks, and the walls encircling the old town are still largely intact today, providing visitors with stunning views of the sea and surrounding area. In World War 2, German forces used St. Malo as a stronghold, and Allied forces shelled much of it into rubble. You’ll agree that the thorough, stone-by-stone restoration is one of post-war Europe's most outstanding architectural achievements.

In addition to its historic sites, St. Malo is renowned for its sandy beaches, which attract tourists and locals alike during the summer months. The dramatic tides race in and out half a mile… and some high tides nearly reach the top of the twenty-foot seawall.

  • May 1 - Mont Saint-Michel & Dinard

Mont Saint-Michel stands as a marvel of both natural beauty and human craftsmanship. Rising dramatically from the vast tidal flats of Normandy, the Abbey and village appear suspended between heaven and earth. The towering spires of the abbey church crown the rocky pinnacle, while stout walls and intricate architecture cascade down its sides. Accessible by a causeway, Mont Saint-Michel exudes an aura of enchantment, surrounded by swirling waters during high tide that transform it into an isolated island. The Abbey is a Romanesque and Gothic design masterpiece, boasting soaring arches, ornate chapels, and breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Whether shrouded in mist or bathed in sunlight, Mont Saint-Michel's otherworldly appearance leaves an indelible impression.

On the way back to St. Malo, we may visit Dinard.

Known for its beautiful beaches, gardens, charming promenades, and elegant Belle Époque architecture, Dinard is situated on the eastern bank of the Rance River, across from the city of St. Malo.

One of Dinard's most famous landmarks is the Promenade du Clair de Lune, a scenic walkway that stretches along the coastline, providing stunning sunset views of the sea and nearby islands.

  • May 2 - Normandy - Omaha & The American Cemetery

Today is the first two days exploring the D-Day invasion region, concentrating on Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery and Museum.

Omaha Beach is one of the D-Day invasion's most iconic and significant locations. The memorial on Omaha Beach pays homage to the American soldiers who lost their lives during the intense fighting. Visiting the beach offers a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made during the liberation of Normandy.

The Normandy American Cemetery is the final resting place of thousands of American soldiers killed during the landings. Visiting is an unexpectedly moving experience. We will stay at the cemetery until the Taps Ceremony and flag presentation… another unbroken tradition that you will unlikely forget.

Tonight, we will stay at Le Grand Hôtel de la Marine.

  • May 3 - More invasion sites & Deauville

We’ll spend most of the day visiting important historical sites connected with the invasion.

St. Mere Eglise played a significant role during World War II and is famous for being the first town to be liberated by the American paratroopers during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944.

Located on the coast of Normandy, Pointe de Hoc was a strategic German stronghold during World War II. During the D-Day invasion, American soldiers of the 2nd and 5th Ranger Battalions scaled the cliffs to capture the German artillery positions.

Located near the beach, the Utah Beach Museum provides an immersive experience, showcasing artifacts, personal stories, and exhibits related to the D-Day landings. It offers insights into the planning, execution, and aftermath of the invasion.

Tonight we will stay at La Closerie Deauville.

  • May 4 - Honfleur & Return to CDG

Honfleur is a charming and picturesque town on the Seine estuary's southern bank, across from Le Havre. Sitting in a café, people-watching, and enjoying the harbor is one of our favorite activities in France.

Honfleur’s rich history dates back to the 11th century. It was an important port during the medieval period and played a significant role in exploring the New World, with expeditions led by famous explorers such as Samuel de Champlain.

The town's architecture is characterized by its timbered houses, narrow streets, and picturesque harbor. The Vieux Bassin (Old Harbor) is particularly famous, lined with colorful buildings that have inspired many artists over the centuries.

Honfleur has a strong artistic heritage and has been a source of inspiration for numerous painters, including Eugène Boudin and Claude Monet. There are several art galleries in the town showcasing local and international artists.

After spending the day in Honfleur, we will return to the airport tonight to stay at Courtyard Marriott CDG for easy departure on Sunday.
